Today, with a rich blend of forests, beaches and the impressive Niger River which meanders through this West African country; Nigeria prominently stands at the very forefront of the continent’s overall growth and development.
For visiting the country, non-nationals usually require a Nigerian visa. Therefore, depending on what nationality you hold and your reason for the visit, your entry requirements for Nigeria will differ accordingly. Nevertheless, there is hardly any reason for a major concern, as the whole process of putting up an application for Nigeria visa has been streamlined and made as simple as possible for you.
Nigerian visa application process for UK nationals
The High Commission of Nigeria in UK has presently instituted an online visa application and appointment system. Applicants are required to complete the visa application and appointment form, prior to taking a printout. While filling in the application form online, it is also essential to simultaneously pay the prescribed Nigerian visa fee, by using a debit or credit card, which must be ‘Verified by Visa’ compatible. Where the visa application form, essential documentation and payment of fee is not duly complied with as prescribed by the High Commission, application for a Nigeria visa will not be accepted.
Visa types with basic requirements
Should you satisfy all requirements related to your specific Nigerian visa category completely, all payments and applications are currently made through the website of Nigeria immigration at: firstname.lastname@example.org. For enquiries, please visit: email@example.com.
Main visa categories include: STR Visas, Visitor and Tourist Visas, Visas for Minors, Business Visas, and Temporary Work Permit (TWP). Though requirements vary between each of these categories, other than certain category specific documents such as a set of four photocopies of the approved quota of expatriates for STR visa and an approved cablegramme issued by the Director of Immigration Services in case of TWP visa, applicants are generally required to submit a list of other documents, along with their visa application.
Basic requirement for a Nigeria visa is obviously the applicant’s own actual passport. This passport will need to:
- have been issued more than six months ago. Applicants holding passports that were issued in the last six months must also submit the previous passport/s issued to them
- have a minimum of two blank pages for visa endorsements
- continue to remain valid for a minimum of one year period beyond the applicant’s entry into Nigeria
- be accompanied by two recent passport size colour photographs. These photographs will need to:
a) be taken in the past six months
b) display white background
As integral part of a reform exercise on immigration, a centre for service delivery has now been introduced at the Nigerian Embassy in UK, which offers you printing, photocopying and Internet cafe services.
